Review: Evernote Hello – The Best App For Remembering People You Meet While Traveling
18 Jan 2012
I have a confession to make. My name is Ryan, and I am…I am…an App-aholic!
There, I said it. And if you didn’t know previously, I may be a tad bit obsessed with downloading applications for my iPhone. Currently, the number stands strong at the Spartan 300, but I used to have upwards of 500 apps on my phone!
Though it may seem a bit excessive, it does give me is plenty of experience with applications out there to give you some suggestions. Since I was an Apple employee once upon a time, I had the chance to teach workshops on how to use iPads and iPhones, and I would love looking up applications for customers, especially for travel.
Now that I am traveling, I don’t use or download nearly as many apps since my iPhone is locked to AT&T, but I have recently downloaded an application that is possibly the slickest and absolute bet application out there for keeping track of who you meet.
Out of all the apps I have in my phone for travel, from currency exchange, flight tracking, packing lists, translators, journal apps, there is one that has stood out.
Evernote Hello is a new application from the developers of that other nifty application for taking notes (Evernote, if you didn’t know) but this will change the way you remember who you meet while traveling the world.
I already have trouble remembering names, but I also struggle many times remembering how I met the person, or where. Wouldn’t it be awesome to have an application that records the location of where you met, lets you put in a not about the encounter, snaps a photo, takes down their email, twitter and phone number all in one? That is what Evenote Hello accomplishes, and makes it really fun in the process.
When you open the application, you a greeted by a grid of he faces of recent entries. It is simple, sleek, and easy to navigate, even though is reminiscent of a Windows phone. Tap on any to see their information, or sit there and watch as it cycles through their funny photos.
The contact information you enter is basic, but the most important aspects of an encounter. The best part this process is the photo feature. Hand your phone to your new friend and it will snap four photos of them when they hold it up to their face. This can be a hilarious thing to watch, usually they are surprised it takes 4 photos, and you end up with a roll that will remind you of those goofy photo booths.
Below their photo is of course an entry for their phone number, email, and my favorite, Twitter. Twitter is getting huge, and if you are a travel blogger at an event, grabbing someones Twitter name is always important.
After the basic information is done, you can go back into the contact and record your current location, and if you are not connected to internet, you can manually enter it. Also, you can write a quick note about how you met that person, which is unbelievably helpful.
I had my first trial run with this application while out Stray bus was spending the night at a Marae. After performing the Haka and getting a lot closer with everyone on the bus, I wanted to get all of their information. Putting it into my contact book would have taken forever, but passing around my phone and having everyone do it themselves was easy, and fun.
Looking for an app to help you keep track of all the awesome people you meet on your journey? Evernote Hello is the best application out there for remembers faces and places.
What are some other applications you use to help you remember people?
